Trick shot shows and long drive exhibitions are just the start of events for the 21st annual GSC golf tournament. Held on September 27 at the Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club in Flowery Branch, the tournament is open to the public and near by the school.
With Casey Cagle as Honorary Chairman and Jason Chester, Pro Long Driver, the golf tournament is a great opportunity for GSC to raise general, unreserved scholarship money. With having $15,500 already raised by individual and company sponsors, the tournament "always has a great turn out" Michelle Brown, Director of Alumni Affairs, said.
Anyone is welcome to sign up and play, "it's so easy," Brown said. "Just sign up online." For only $125 a person and $450 for a four-man team, every participant will receive lunch, refreshments, green fees, a cart and a Dri-Weave golf shirt.
Sponsorships are welcomed, with the simple reminder that this event is solely held as a fundraising opportunity for the students at GSC to help further their academic goals. Hayes Family Auto has given $5,000 and a great giveaway with the chance to win a car. With a usual turn out of about 100 to 120 people, "I hope to reach my goal of $20,000 this year," Brown said.
There is no cost to come in support and there are many chances to win prizes for all. Jason Chester (Trick Pro) will be there before to show off his skills with a golf club. A few tricks he has in store for the crowd include hitting a ball over 300 yards and exploding a watermelon.
There will be a reception following the tournament with prizes and drinks for everyone. Sponsors will have booths set up with company information. "I'm looking forward to a great turn out for this year's tournament and it feels great to help the community," Brown said.
