Who needs the Atlanta Falcons when GSC's own Team Cooter's continues to bring the heat- and defeat. On Oct. 24 the flag football team achieved a three-peat, defeating the opposing Blackmails 44-40. "They are definitely athletes that look like they can play Division 1" said Ken Harrison, Intramural director. When asked if anyone could possibly make a transition from intramurals to the pro's, Harrison simply replied "it's a stretch."While the Cooter's hold the sovereign crown, it is actually The Numbcrunchers that finished with the most impressive record at 9-1. Ending the phenomenal season was the All-Star showdown between the Oconee and Gainesville campuses.
As the days get shorter and the temperature continues to drop, intramural fury persists through both dodge ball and soccer. While soccer is equally diverse in boy to girl ratio, dodge ball is more one sided. Michelle Tarantino, a GSC student, said "I am not intimidated playing with a group of guys. I think it's more fun and competitive." With only a handful of dodge ball teams, time will tell if any can compete with White Goodman's Purple Cobras. Although soccer and dodge ball sign ups have passed, students seeking a team to play on can still place an ad in the classifieds on the intramural website.
Spring 2008 intramural leagues consist of team handball and basketball, starting on Jan. 28. Softball and ultimate Frisbee will begin Mar 17. In the mean time, students can currently register individually or there teams on the intramural website.
