According to the Registrars office over 5,000 students are attending the college this semester. When asked about registration, Registrar Janice Hartsoe said, "Registration went well this semester, it was no busier than usual. There are always a lot of students who are unfamiliar with the school and have trouble finding their way around, but we are always here to help".
This semester is off to a great start because of the staff here at GSC.
The semester started out extremely busy for the Advising Center, which advised 789 students within a six day period.
"The first week of school was non-stop," said Academic Advisor Michelle Gilstrap. "We really encourage students to attend advising week."
"Attending advisement week makes it a lot easier on students," added Tammy Allen the administrative assistant here at GSC. "Not only are students better served but they get the classes they want".
Advising week is to be held on March 10 - 21.
Cara Skeat, the director of Student Life, said she was overall very pleased with how S.O.A.R. (Student Orientation, Advisement, & Registration Program) went this semester. "It was a very busy day, but that's good because we have a lot of students".
"S.O.A.R is a nice advantage," said Skeat, "it helps freshman feel like they are GSC students, it also gives them a chance to meet new friends and make connections".
Surveys are given out at every S.O.A.R. session to get feedback from students about S.O.A.R. and how it helps.
"The response is getting much higher," said Jemilia Harrison, "graduate assistant for orientation programs, students are responding well".
"Freshman students seem to really enjoy S.O.A.R.," added Skeat.
