Construction on the student activities building is "moving on schedule," said Bill Moody, director of plant operations and facilities at Gainesville State College.
The building project was started in November 2007 and is scheduled to be finished May of this year. The building will add 28,000 additional square feet to the activities building and add a "more modern" look, said Moody.
The building's steel framing is 80 percent complete and the building will be dried in by the end of the month, said Moody.
When construction is complete, offices on the original side will be moved to the new side and renovations will begin on the existing activities center. When this is finished it will open up a new cafeteria, bookstore and game room.
Renovations on the new cafeteria and bookstore are already underway. The new renovations are going to make it "more inviting for students," said Moody.
