The Tournées Film Festival was held in relation to Gainesville State College's Institute for Global Initiatives during February and March.
According to Chaudron Gille, who works with the Institute for Global Initiatives, the Tournées Film Festival is part of a grant which allows the films to be shown throughout campuses across the nation. This is the first time the festival was held at GSC. The films were selected to go along with the spring festivities on campus that celebrated Valentine's day, Black History month, and Women's History month.
The films were Paris, Je t' aime, Days of Glory, Monsieur Ibrahim, Gabrielle, and Comedy of Power. All five films were shown at the Continuing Education building.
Paris, Je t' aime is a series of eighteen short films filmed by U.S. directors and international directors. The connecting theme in all the films is about the dynamics of love in the setting of "The City of Love". Paris, Je t'aime was shown on Feb. 15th.
Days of Glory is a World War II film whose plot focuses on the liberation of France by African soldiers. Days of Glory was shown on Feb. 22nd.
Monsieur Ibrahim is a film about the friendship that is formed between a young Jewish boy and an elderly Muslim man while in 1960's Paris. Monsieur Ibrahim was shown Feb. 26th.
Gabrielle is a film based of the novel The Return by Joseph Conrad which tells the story of a turbulent end to a marriage. Gabrielle was shown on Mar. 14th.
The final film in the festival was Comedy of Power. This film is about the power that a woman learns she possesses while she is making preparations for a trial dealing with corruption within a corporation. Comedy of Power was shown on Mar. 28th.
The Institute for Global Initiatives is a new program at GSC which focuses on the development of global awareness through various programs.
