Gainesville State College, in an effort to show how much we use our buildings to get a new one, will be implementing noon classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this upcoming fall semester.

That's right! We may lose our club meeting times, but we'll be getting a new building.
It's a fifty-fifty situation. You see, extra curricular activities are very important to some people. Clubs are a place to find identity, socialization and to make a difference.

The noon hour used to be the perfect time for these clubs to meet as no one had class, so everyone who wanted to attend would be able to. It also made ordering pizza a very easy and sensible thing to do. Not only does food bring people together, but it's also really good bait to lure poor college students into your meetings, especially when it's free.

Gone also will be clubs fairs, activities in the Student Center, an hour of free time to go get lunch or coffee.

Or maybe we'll keep all the student activities, but have low attendance. The student center is already lacking in attendance since the removal of food options and the installation of "sugar bread and coffee," as we've heard it described.

But the change can be good. We are growing, as most of you know. Not everyone is able to get the classes they want, especially the late-registering freshmen.

A new building with more class rooms will be good for the college and help instigate growth. It may also help the economy of the surrounding area, with the possibilities of more people spending more money. Not to mention the new teachers we'll need to teach in those new classrooms.

Noon classes may also help the lunch-hour traffic rush. It is nearly impossible to get out of the campus, or anywhere on Mundy Mill Road from 11:45 a.m. until 12:30.p.m. Keeping students in class will keep them off the road and alleviate some of the congestion.

We're not sure what changes will occur with these noon classes. We cannot say whether they will be all good or all bad. Only time will tell.
